tc_reed 0 Posted September 19, 2004 This is my canvas version which I created for a gift to my Father who loves boats, the sea and fishing. Thoughts and ideas welcomed. Link to comment
samscholes 0 Posted September 19, 2004 The high contrast and manipulated color of this photograph make a unique looking image but I don't find it particularly pleasing to my eyes. I would rather have seen a normal photograph of these boats docked at the peer. You had some good subject matter to work with but I don't think this image does it justice. Link to comment
threeleaf 0 Posted September 19, 2004 excellent work - very rustic in its treatment and content - feels cold, wet and baren - 6/6 Link to comment
tc_reed 0 Posted September 19, 2004 I can understand how you would feel that way. Especially from the little detail you get in the uploaded version. However, when this prints onto canvas, not photo canvas, but real painters canvas, it has a slightly different appearance. It looks naturally aged as if by sun light. Then, frame it in an old barn board frame and you complete the feel the canvas and muted tones provide. Not to worry. I continue to improve on my process to allow for many types of looks no matter what fabric I choose to print onto. :-) Thanks for looking at this Sam. Your feeback is always really thorough and I take in the elements you point out for use in future photo's. Your perspective is much more developed than mine. Warmest regards! TC Link to comment

samscholes 0 Posted September 19, 2004 TC Reed, thank you for your kind words and for the additional details about this work. In my critique I thought of mentioning something about how it probably looked better printed on canvas. Viewing a small, compressed version of any photograph on a web site never does it complete justice. It would be nice to see this photograph printed on canvas and framed, I expect it is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your photographs. While I don't always like the work I see on this site I do enjoy looking. Critiquing the photographs of others helps me in evaluating my own work and increase my understanding of what work and what doesn't. Link to comment

tc_reed 0 Posted September 19, 2004 I couldn't agree more, Sam. Since critiquing the work of others and learning from so many the different technical approaches and how they set up or determine what process will work best in a given moment, I find it much easier to be honest and open to such honesty in my own photo's. In fact, I now appreciate hearing negative feedback and why a piece is received in such a manner. I learn more in those moments. Link to comment
