I know I've mentioned before how much I like your skiing shots, but I had a question about how to get the cool blue color in the snow like that? I know all the shots in Powder and stuff have that, and I've had limited luck trying to get it in my own shots. Thanks!

zach, it's not really not anything special that i do. all my skiing shots i shoot with velvia, usually 50 because i usually only go out when it is bluebird, so there is plenty of light. these are scans of the negatives, and i haven't really tweaked them at all. so i think the velvia is the key here. i'm no great photographer, but i've met and chatted with lee cohen, who is big news, and all he uses is an F5 with a motor drive and velvia. he's big news, so he cranks through a roll in like 5 seconds and it's no big deal, but that's also how he gets the good shots. on my gap shot, for example, i cranked through eight or nine frames, so a viewer can actually trace jeff flying through the sky. if i had tried to get just one perfect frame of the gap, i probably would have missed the shot entirely. so my best advice: shoot velvia, and lots of it.
