Metallic Green (Dogbane) Beetle on leaf.

greglyon

This Metallic Green Beetle is less than 1/2 inch (12mm) long. He didn't sit still very often either. It took me 20 or so exposures to get 2 good ones, most had movement during the exposure. Manual exposure/Manual focus. F5, AF Micro 105mm+4T diopter. The dark spot on his head is a reflection of me and camera!

Do you know the species? This is a very small beetle, about 1/2"

body length. Thanks for your comments!

How did you manage to get so clean a shot? Can you provide any technical info about the shot?

Sorry still new to this web site. I just read your details about the shot. Very nice.

There are something along the lines of 30,000 species of beetles in North America, and I can only recognize a handful, so normally I wouldn't hazard a guess. But this one actually looks familiar (what are the odds?). If that's a dogbane leaf it's crawling on, chances are pretty good this is a dogbane beetle (Chrysochus sp.). Nice shot!

Raymond, glad you found the details section. Unfortunately many photos here on photo.net don't have much in the way of technical details listed. I try to always put something in there as I like to see the details of other people's work!

David, I have to find one of the slides where I can see more of the leaf to be sure what it was. Thanks for the potential ID!

Thank you both for the compliments!
