Guest Guest Posted August 30, 2001 Great image! I wonder whether the photos communication value would be enhanced if the piece of wood was removed from the chair? The texture, lighting, and exposure are wonderful. Link to comment
maria_s. 1 Posted August 30, 2001 I agree with the comment above -- that wood must go! Link to comment
g1 0 Posted August 30, 2001 Colour, texture, light & comp all brilliant as usual. However I do agree about that piece of wood. Link to comment
david_sullivan 0 Posted August 30, 2001 I like the wood and its echo of the stick on the lower left adding some diagonal activity (along with the diagonal on the background above the chair). The colors and textures are superb. Link to comment
audidudi 0 Posted August 30, 2001 This one comes oh-so-close but ultimately, I would prefer it with just the chair alone... Link to comment
amy_hoy 0 Posted August 31, 2001 I think this composition is great. Though I love B&W it certainly is refreshing to see some color once in a while! As for the hunk of wood, I'd have to see side-by-side with and without versions to decide, it certainly didn't bug me until I started reading the comments of others and then I went "hmm." I think in either case the rest of the picture more than compensates for that stray piece of lumber. Link to comment
andy_graham 0 Posted August 31, 2001 the board was there so it is in the shot...i think it is still there, maybe tomorrow i will move it and shoot again Link to comment
mottershead 0 Posted August 31, 2001 Very nice, but I think I would have removed the block of wood on the chair, even though some people might think that was cheating. P.S. I wrote the above from the photocritique, then came back to read the other comments. Seems like the consensus is that the block has to go! While I think it would be cheating, say, to drive around with the chair in the back of your pickup and set it up in front of likely looking walls, small adjustments to "found" situations, like moving the block of wood, seem fair enough to me. Hope the chair is still there and that the tenants of the building haven't insisted that the wall be painted. Link to comment

Was I cheating yesterday when I drove my model out to a location I'd picked out? If anything, driving around with the chair in search of likely looking walls would make me think even more of the photographer's artistic sense if he ended up getting a good composition out of it. jasonschock 0 Posted January 25, 2002 I like the fact that I'm finding stories in your shots, Andy. In this one, I especially dig the wood on the abused chair, sort of like the left-behind murder weapon at a crime scene. Link to comment
fed sanchez 0 Posted February 27, 2002 I like the wood on the chair, myself. It's colour adds to the almost unreal look of the shot. It's hard edge of black and almost glowing quality contrasts with the more 'real' appearance of the floor. Without it the floor would gain a more promninent role, and the picture would loose 'that look' that we all seem to love in your work. I find, however, the wood on the floor too much. Link to comment
