aepelbacher 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Yesterday, I posted a duotone of the same image. Wilson promised me a 7/7 if I posted the original ... so, Wilson, here you are! :-) Is this really the preference of most of you? I, personally, really prefer the duotone. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 13, 2004 It's not easy getting a 7/7 from me...but you did it! ^_^ Congratulations! Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 13, 2004 This one has the feel of a traditional, Oriental painting as well as a look of modern graphics (although not of similar subject matter, but Patrick Nagel came to mind,) with crisp, clean lines and composition. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Wow, Wilson!! That is SO cool!! What does it say? Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 14, 2004 It says, "Thousand trees, morning sky, still water, a little scribbling at lower left, a little wiggly lines at top right, look very Zen together." ^_^ Sorry to disappoint as I neither read nor write Chinese or Japanese. The writing was just a mock-up, or a text "comp-in" (when we used to have to thumbnail or sketch ad ideas.) I just wanted to see what it looks like with some Far Eastern writing on it. ^_^ Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Wilson and Lou Ann, me thinks you guys are having fun. This is a really, really fine photograph. Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted September 14, 2004 See, here's a great example of the eye you have. That's why you don't have to do macro work to have an opinion on macros. Great shot! Love Wilson's sense of humor. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Two thumbs up, way up, and that's seven/seven by me too. Link to comment
cjrupp 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Lou, one of your best. I agree with with Wilson and Ray this one is better. Another good angle on this shot is about a mile to the right of this spot. Well done. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 14, 2004 I'm torn, but I think I prefer the other one. Either way, this is a great one, Lou Ann. Very peaceful and appealing. Link to comment
Raisanen 0 Posted September 14, 2004 I was thinking the same already in the previous picture. It looks like a traditional Japanese artwork. Your Chinese texts make the picture even much more "original"! Doumo arigatou gozaimashita Lou Ann-san and Wilson-san. Sore wa totemo kirei desu. I give 7/6 to Lou Ann and 7/7 to Wilson! Maybe Lou Ann can post a third variant with the Chinese characters for us; a 7/7 is guaranteed! Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted September 14, 2004 I love this one! And I love Wilson's addition of the Chinese characters. Very, very Zen! Link to comment

stevemarcus 0 Posted September 14, 2004 I'm glad you uploaded the "original" color version of this photo, Lou Ann. Like the duotone image, this one too is very nice. Personally, I prefer the duotone version. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Okay, for those who liked the duo-tone version, how about this? I am trying to keep the tonality of the duo-tone version, but keep the clarity and the dynamic range of the original. Not sure if it works. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 14, 2004 I like it quite a bit, Ray! Did you use duotones for that? How did you save the clarity in those trees on the hill? Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 14, 2004 My usual trick: peel off the Red and Blue channels, convert Green channel back to RGB color, increase the color temp to the highest (coolest), which will remain duo-tone. Somehow, I find that the Green channel is the sharpest; it may have something to do with chromatic aberration, where only green light falls on the film plane dead-on, but I don't have scientific proof yet. Somebody must have or should have a Ph.D. desertation research on this one. :D Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 15, 2004 Lou Ann, looks like a party breaks out here after first few comments. Ray, green is good too, but I like your explanation even better. ^_^ BTW, how about writing something meaningful in Chinese for Lou Ann so she can apply it to which ever version she'll end up with? phalvorson 0 Posted September 15, 2004 Very nice Lou! I am having a hard time picking which one, but I am leaning towards the original. This is one of your best! Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted October 4, 2004 I was in Hawai'i when this was posted, but I'm glad to have found it through Wilson's favorites. What an exceptional image! Just incredibly beautiful. I love it in this version.....congratulations!! Actually the Chinese writing that WT did on it is nice, too. It is traditionally done as a poem that describes the image. Link to comment
detlef 6 Posted October 26, 2004 I think I prefer thi one over the b&w version...good composition ! Link to comment
