aepelbacher 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Another discussion of Velvia? I left in the wee hours of the morning darkness to be at Emerald Bay at sunrise. I am not happy with the results that I got, though. The images seem to be lacking in any kind of interesting color for the most part. This one, though, had nice silhouettes that I like. I changed it to duotone using black and a nice blue. What do you think? Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted September 12, 2004 Wonderful. Peaceful and I like the overall tone. Good eye on this! Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 12, 2004 I like it, Lou Ann, a fine photo, a Velvia (Velvet) Revolution in your landscape photography. (Can't help playing with words here) :D Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Lou Ann you made a winner! I love the composition and the contrast. Fantasic. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Very nice, Lou Ann! I love the contrast in this one and the nice lines. Works for me! Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Nice capture, Lou Ann. Are you going to post the color version too? How do you like Velvia? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 12, 2004 I like the atmosphere, the light, the tone, I like everything here. Well done!! Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 12, 2004 This one is a winner by my book! Terrific composition, nice detail along all the silhouette lines, value gradation of near to far, the reflection that adds an extra dimension (especially like those ripples along shoreline,) and regardless of what the original color version looks like, this version is something that I wish I can call my own. It has a graphic design look to it. Well done! Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted September 12, 2004 YES ... I like this very much ... great mood, nice color tone and good composition. Must be a very beautiful place ... peaceful. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Thanks, y'all, for the positive feedback!! I was away all day long, and it was a nice surprise to come home to such rave reviews. :-) Here is the original. I thought that the color of the mountain in the background and the bland color of the sky took away from the image. I like the duotone on this. Steve ... velvia is frustrating me, because I'm not yet good with the exposure and drawing out the best parts of a scene. I'll get there. The learning curve will need to be in place, too, though!! allonkira 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Beautiful, moody shot!! excellent exposure and great comp.!! One of your bests!!! Cheers, allon. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 12, 2004 The orginal has more details. It's a proof that you do well with Velvia. It's just takes too long to develop. I dropped a Velvia 50 to the lab today, and I have to wait for 8 days to get the slides and another 7 days to get it on CD. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Ray - really? You think the original has more detail? Interesting.... By the way, Ray, you ought to try Penn camera. They have a store in Springfield and another at Tysons. They usually have my slides AND CD ready within a few days. They're VERY quick on the turn around for print film, because they do that on site, and it's often ready in 24 hours, or even the same day if I bring it in on a Saturday morning. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Sure, see the yellow highlighted area in the original, which creates better perspective, imho. :D Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 12, 2004 By golly, you're right! I was SO focused on the island, and the detail that I captured in the trees there (I was psyched about that!) that I didn't notice the trees on the hill. VERY interesting.... Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted September 12, 2004 Lou Ann, this is a masterpiece, and one of the very best that you have ever done, in my opinion. The duotone is very effective. Congratulations, and well done! Your foray into the wee hours of the morning was worth it. Link to comment
bekster 0 Posted September 12, 2004 Hi Lou Ann! The foreground silhouette of the trees and island makes this really cool. The only thing I can think of that could improve this would be a little color in the sky and the water reflection. I like this a lot, my kind of shot, nice work! Link to comment
