Sunset, Moonrise, Big Dipper, Aurora

MKII, 16mm 20 seconds f2.8 for two exposures, stitched into a single pano. The sunsets as the moon rises under the Northern Lights. The Big Dipper (part) is visible in the upper left corner.Stiching was the only manipulation.

This is a pano from two frames, combining the late sunset, a rising moon, the Northern

Lights and even part of the Big Dipper in the upper left corner. Unmanipulated other than

the stitching.

Living at a latitude of -27 degrees I have never observed an aurora. If asked "What is the one thing you want to do before kicking off this mortal coil?" I always respond to, "To see the aurora borealis/australis!!"

 

As an amateur astronomer I love this picture, (and the shot containing the moonlit road). For me they both confirm the absolute beauty of the universe in which we live. Keep up the good work Father Xmas.
