david_branum 0 Posted August 26, 2001 An attempt at a natural light portrait. Two things I should have done is reflect light from the right and remove the telephone cord in the background. I would appreciate your comments. Link to comment
gauthier 0 Posted August 28, 2001 I really like this picture. There is nothing too special about the lighting and the baby doesn't look too good, but there is something sweet and authentic about the mother. It looks a bit like a painting from some Dutch 17th century master. Very delicate and touching. Link to comment
david g. kelly 0 Posted August 28, 2001 The composition is fine, but you need some fill light to reduce the contrast so the right side of the faces will not be so dark. In this situation, you probably could get enough fill light by just using a large white card as a reflector. Link to comment
david_branum 0 Posted August 30, 2001 Thanks so much for your input. The older girl is my 15 year old daughter, who is VERY insistant that I note she is not the mother. The little one is her cousin. Link to comment
rachel_dixon 0 Posted August 30, 2001 There's something very beguiling in her expression. I agree with Philippe's comment that it's very reminiscent of a painting by a Dutch master - I think it's partly the way she looks, but also the composition. It's a very subtle, very satisfying photograph. Link to comment
