Just came back from Mammoth Lakes, CA. We had clouds on Sunday and

then nothing until Thursday night. It was really blowing out there,

so we almost decided not to turn off of Highway 395. Good thing we

did. It was an amazing site. Funny thing was that there was only

one other photographer out there. We just kept on shaking our heads

with disbelief at the beauty of the moment. Lots of fun...

Hi Gregory

Wow what a capture. This is awesome. I love the color and the reflection. The sun rays, I mean what else can you say.

Excellent capture of a very nice sunset with magical light effects. The composition is great. Wish to see a beautiful sky like that with this superb landscape.

When nature decided to give you a rare show like this, you better be ready. And apparently you were. Once in a lifetime shot. Absolutely breathtaking. Except for one small nit: the horizon is slightly tilted to the right.

This is an awesome shot. One question: Is there other light source to light the white rocks? They should have been dark. Anyway, The exposure is perfect and well captured.

Great subject and color! But it looks like it needs to be rotated about 0.5 degree or so CCW. Still a nice photograph. Regards.

This image sure looks beautiful - would it be too much to ask for you to post a small version of the unedited photo? This might sound negative and sceptical, but it is not. I would just like to find out how much share the universe and mother nature have in this. Cheers.

Thanks everyone for all of your kind and constructive comments. I appreciate all of the feedback. I recieved many comments about post processing. Here is a quick overview of what I did. I shoot with a Canon 10D in RAW format. The image is a composite of 3 bracketed images (1 stop up and down). After combining the images, most of my effort was toward enhancing the contrast (which also enhanced the saturation). I also worked on enhancing the contrast between the tufa and the background hills. I would agree that the tufa pops out a little too much and I intend to tone down the lightening there. Lastly, I sharpened. Please email me if anyone is interested in more detail. I intend to continue working on improving this image. That sunset was truely special. I was very lucky to be there. Thanks again for all your comments.
