anders_gelbheit 0 Posted September 3, 2004 This is nicely seen. The composition with the drainage grate in the upper right quadrant of the frame is good. Photographing in the rain is different/creative in the first place. You also chose b&w for this picture, which is very appropriate for the subject. The only major recommendation for improvement would be to next time chose a smaller f-stop so that your depth-of-field increases. That way, you would have gotten the foreground sharp, as well. Given the low light level you probably had in this situation, that would probably have required the use of a tripod or some other prop to keep your camera steady. Also, there is very little of visual interest going on in the lower left of the frame. Shifting the view up to the upper right and including more of the grate would have strengthend the composition. Overall, very nice for a beginning photographer. Keep up the good work! Link to comment
samscholes 0 Posted September 18, 2004 Using a tripod in low-light situations is certainly advisable. In the case of this photograph half of the frame is out of focus due to a slow shutter speed, too large an aperture or camera shake. Beyond that I like what you chose to capture here. The rain drops splashing in the puddles are interesting and the grate at the far right adds some more detail to break up an otherwise homogenous scene. Link to comment
