Taken on a day when sunshine was interrupted by frequent rain

squalls. Great weather for good skies! For those wo know Exmor this

was taken from Selworthy Beacon near Minehead looking west towards

Porlock. All comments welcome!

I'm quite taken by this shot Colin. The exact exposure bringing out the full range of values, the classic composition and the interesting subject matter all combine to produce a very well put together photo.

I like this kind of sky and I think perhaps it would have been more dark and contrasted with the use of a gradual grey filter. You could darken it with photoshop. What do you think of this suggestion (quickly made; there is better to do) ?

Henri, Yes I like a nice cloudy sky too! In this case I was trying to keep the feel of the original sky which was quite bright. Also the original is darker than the upload. But I like what you have done very much - very dramatic! Your suggestion about the grad filter is a good one and I should use them more but when I am taking photos I get carried away and forget!

The light here is magic, and the darkened clouds are such a nice balance to the landscape below...Beautiful!

Thanks Linda and Cristina! Cristina you are right about the foreground. The light was difficult here making strong highlights and deep shadows. I like dramatic lighting but it isn't the easiest to photograph specially when the rain was just about to come again! I 'll see if I can do anything to make the foreground less contrasty.

Thanks Hans. I'm still learning how to use the Mamiya. It is easy to use but less easy to get good results with!

Cristina here it is with some of the dark bits of the foreground lightened.

I like this dramatic image. I don't mind the people - they add a sense of scale to the shot. Great lighting and sky, Colin.

And yet, no one has mentioned MY favorite part of this shot, Colin ... the top of the hill in the distance looks SOOOooo much like a mosaic. It's fabulous. The detail in the dark clouds is more striking, but I can understand that you like the bright ones, too. Regards!

Colin, what a majestic image. To me this is really three worlds in one, the foreground landscape, the background landscape and those great clouds. Great shooting and composition.

Just love the feeling of this freshness. This is not a wide angle picture, but the feeling is even wider than that. 7/7

I like this a lot but I agree that it is three shots in one. I had to study it for a while to appreciate it.

Thanks to you all!

Kim, Andrea, I agree about the people. There is a kind of landscape painting where you see the mountains and waterfalls etc then see the people, herd of cows etc which as you say gives scale.

Lou Ann, Yes I like the patchwork quilt appearance of this part of the world and tried to capture it in some other shots which may appear at some later date.

Troy, 'Fresh' is one way of putting it! One problem here was the wind was very strong and I was having to wait for less windy moments to take the shot. Also the lens was a short tele as you observe so that made it difficult to handhold too.

Amar, Phillip, the shot does have three distinct layers and some of the above comments are about the balance between them. I hope I have now got the balance as good as possible. Thanks for your comments.
