Derek, this is a neat shot. I like the b&w, selective focusing, composition, and lighting. Since it was from film, perhaps a bit more sharpening and contrast adjustment will improve it further?

The fact that the knight is the only chess piece with a face always

set him apart for me. I thought this shot showed off his uniqueness

and therefore potential loneliness.

 

Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.

The highlights created by the reflection off the knights' head seem a bit harsh to me. Perhaps a polarizer would have cut the light a bit (not too much though!) and allowed just a bit more detail in the eye of the piece. Great image just the same!
