Fire,Fire

photogvt

The reason I was there to photograph was because I happened to live next door. Woke up to people screaming, electricity was out due, stumbled in the dark to find my camera and shot the fire basically in my PJ's. It was hard concentrating on photographing as I was worried my place was next.

Good composition - given the circumstances you describe. The firemen's silhouettes against the conflagration lend additional drama to the scene. I would perhaps have tried a shot in portrait format as well, showing a bit more foreground (hose on the ground, debris, etc.)

Overall a good journalistic picture imo.

Hi Martin

I was shooting wide open(f1.4) at 1/15th, cursing to myself that I should have 400 asa film on hand, just in case. Thanks for your comment

Even at LARGE image size, this is barely 250 by 350 pixels. Would really like to see an image big enough to fill the screen, to get a good look.

Dang, I've never seen a shot like this on Velvia before! Awesome shot!! The only complaaint I could make is that the fire fighters don't seem to be doing anything except the one with the hose. Still very good. Even provia100F would be good enough for this. If this was 1/15th then you could easily handheld at 1/30th, This is the kind of shot I would hang on my wall. I'm weird like that.
