Gulls in New York

hyungu_kim

f/2.8, 1/4000, 80-200mm. I could feel gulls' sorrow that they didn't have any place to rest by development. They seemed to choose rather cold metal fence stuck on the concrete than small park for their rest.Hard to find the focused area, isn't it? Human is apt to consider nature as very small part or ignore it for his aim, but we are the only small part of it. Sorry for poor scanning. Four corners in the original slide are brighter than this photo.

Because the background is so large and so out of focus, I feel like I have to search for where the focus is, for the reason for taking the photo. It is distracting at best... Isn't there someway the same subject could have been taken, in a way that would draw the viewers eye directly to the subject, the seagulls?

I had to switch to large size before I could make out anythhing other than a blurred cityscape. The gulls really need to take up more of the frame, so they are immediatly obvious.

Others have already pointed out the main shortcoming of this picture in the composition: The issue is the size and position of the subject compared to the background. Anyway, the idea was good.

this is a quite professional shot that expresses its feeling very good.we don,t have to see the background focused. It's important to explain that these birds are not in nature. These f/2.8, 1/4000, 80-200mm. cannot be a coincidence so we can say that this is a lessonlike photo shot to who understands. A good example of DOF. Howerer I loved this photo a lot. Photo.net is being a photo album with the photos of pets, flowers and babies. This one is different to photo.net. Thank you sharing.

I really like this shot. The depth could have been greater but it would not have helped very much. Selective focusing is an effctive way to single out the subject like you did here. Very good job.

I see only one bird in focus, and there is nothing else to see. I just do not get what you were aiming at.
