Suggestions for improvement are invited. I thought the lighting and

the cloud shadows were interesting.

THe lighting and the cloud ARE interesting, as you suggest. Couldn't you have crawled down this little ridge in front of you to get past the large green area in the lower right? LOL!! Actually, I find this image intriguing ... I love the colors in the cliffs. Wouldn't it be nice to live out West? :-)

Hey, you were right. Nah, I like this, the curves draw you to the proper place. The lighting, lets face it, is rubbish( sometimes you just can't hang around, though), but the shadows from the clouds make up for that.

Compositionwise nothing to improve, IMO. Great scenery with an interesting lighting, great detail (difficult to get good lighting results at noon. Different areas of light and shadows by the clouds are very effective in this respect). Just curious: when do you use a polarizer, when not ? Is it by chance here, or deliberate ?

Carsten, no polarizer on this shot; my Minolta camera has no filter threads. But otherwise, with my 6x7, I will use a polarizer only if I determine that it would produce a better photograph. Regards.

I like this, too - a great variety in lighting and textures. Nice depth to it, too. Glad you could keep detail in the foreground without everyone else blooming.

What a treat, to be enjoying your photos and find one of my own "backyard"! Flaming Gorge...I live in Vernal, and have a cabin not far from this Reservoir. It usually shows much more color than the day you captured it, but this photo is striking all the same. I love your photos, I'll visit again!
