Land of grief #2

gauthier

Second of a series of three pictures shot with a Diana toy camera in the Mount Royal cimetary in Montréal. If the Mount Royal is sometimes aid to be the world 2nd nicest cimetary after the Père Lachaise in Paris, the Diana is certainly the worst camera ever made - but the blurred pics it consistantly produces have a style of their own. This print was souped in some kind of obscure, home brewed lith developper that was totally out of control; I finally managed to get these funky streaks (caused by water turbulence in the tray!) to some creative use with these cimetary shots. The original color was some kind of dark brown with lighter spots, but it got reddish tones after five minutes in a very well known selenium toner: KRST.I'm fairly happy with this series, as it leads me to cool impressionistic effets in B&W, as I often do in color.BTW, this was printed on Agfa multicontrast RC paper. Ilford products proved to be almost irresponsive to this special brew.(Uploaded August 14, 2004).

This was shot with a crappy Diana plastic camera. The print was

processed in a home brewed Lith developper, which accounts for the

uneveness of the processing. My feeling is that the technique is a

good match for the cimetary theme. Do you share this opinion? You can

also check the two pictures of the same series found in the same folder.
