For you (amateur) new DSLR owners such as the D70 or Digital Rebel, consider buying a SONY as a second camera instead of outrageously expensive lenses. I couldn't get this shot with the D70 (using a Nikkor 35-135 F3.5/4.5 AF lens).

They're heavily discounted in the US, Ken. I've seen them as low as $700; different story in Canada, though.

What's impressive about this camera is the autofocus system (it'll focus perfectly even on a blank white wall ) and the 28-200 f2.0/2.8 Zeiss lens (an equivalent performance lens from Nikon would cost several years' lunch money).

This picture was obviously tweaked, but still, one requires a decent base image to go any further.

very nice, luv the texture on the smooth surface of the upper arch. it almost looks rendered from a 3D package.

Pitman, I was rather surprised by the camera's ability to render detail, helped enormously by its ability to focus properly under the most difficult conditions, especially Given the electronic viewfinder which is nowhere near as good as optical.

It must have something to do with Sonys nightshot mode, the ability to remove the IR filter, this would help focusing im sure. Nice.

I see what you mean about "you should consider going digital"!! Hmmm.... (Love the tone of the sky in the background as well as the detail.)

Lou Ann, with my limited experience, getting a shot this clean on film has only happened in my dreams. Maybe that's why the chicken wire covering the arch opening is my favorite part of the image. :-)

Great detail and I love the lighting. I think you need to change your title, though - doesn't resemble any type of "test" image to me - it's really good!

Michael,

Since you are recommending this camera, let me ask you this: How large a (sharp) print have you made from this camera? Is this the best choice for displaying images at photo.net (100kb being the max)?

Vivek.
