St Patricks Cathedral 5th Ave NYC

david_chang_sang

The camera used, my father's OLD (31 years now) Pentax SL. Totally manual, no internal meter and no auto focus. I took a light reading with an old (also my dad's) Gossen Sixtar ambient meter. Seemed to do the trick. In the darkroom, the print was made using a 2.5 Ilford filter on a 4x5 enlarger, exposing for 45 seconds at f16 while dodging the doorway and the just above the doorway. Another 15 second burn in time was used on the left hand column to bring out a bit more detail.

Any and all comments welcome.

I'm just getting the hang of printing in the darkroom. I'm also

still learning a lot about taking photos after returning to the hobby

after 20 years or so.

Cheers all,

Dave

Good picture and a great decision to use B&W instead of color. Also, it is neat to see the two modern vehicles in juxtaposition with the church. My only complaint would be that interesting parts of the church have been cut off.

I would like to see this cropped in to the apex of the Gothic arch, losing some at the sides to focus on the entrance and the steps. Alternatively, take it out more to get more of the facade above the pointy bit (!).

Looks great in B&W though. Good detail and constrast.
