oofoto 0 Posted August 9, 2004 A lovely image. I especially like the lighting and the way the spray creates almost hidden figures to search out. The blue sky also makes it work breaking the grey supersplash. Magic. Link to comment
susi_lawson 0 Posted August 10, 2004 I love the fantasy element here, very compelling. what a lucky spot to be in and great eye you have! Link to comment
michaelseewald 237 Posted August 10, 2004 Nina, I am so happy you captured this image because I can take deep drinks of it daily (I honored it with making it my desktop image -usually for the day, but this one gets it for the week!). And even though I see it is not your regular style you saw it's unique properties and posted it. This is a real 'WOW' image, the kind I try to explain to my students that they must capture if they want to win awards in competitions. (Hint hint, enter it in many). The dynamics of light, line, form and center of interest, albeit somewhat lucky, is absolute perfection. The splash of color, complimentary to that of the boardwalk, the motion and emotion captured, the young boy looking back into the frame, the depth created by the exploding water and some kids disappearing in it, the shadow and hightlight detail and so much more, I just love it to pieces and more so the more I view it. If they had any sense (and sometimes they do) they would make this a POW, and soon. Obviously an 8/8. Blessings, MS Link to comment
nina1 0 Posted August 10, 2004 Such fun to hear some of you really liked this image! (Sitting here trying to come up with something smart to say after reading Michael Seewald's crititique - I mean... WoW!) Michael: No doubt this is the best critique written to me - ever! Thank you so much for your (almost) overwhelming critique! I love you photos, and from your bio I understand that you actually might know what you're talking about... hehehe. As you mentioned this is isn't my usual style - but that makes it even more fun. If you know about some contests that would be worth entering please let me know (hint hint right back at ya). Again - thank you all for your kind words and for making my day. I really do appreciate it so very much. Best wishes from Nina Link to comment
nina1 0 Posted August 10, 2004 I couldn't help but play with it a little this afternoon to try and get some more detail in the shadows area and a little more contrast. The original version is almost straight from the camera and I figured I'd try to get some more out of it. Here I've attached what I ended up with: http://www.eyesondesign.net/images/supersplash_ver2.jpg Would really like to know which version you like best :) /Nina Link to comment
pawel_czapiewski1 0 Posted August 11, 2004 Congratulations. New version shows more detail in the shaddows but the original is strong enough to land you highiest marks. regards Link to comment
michaelseewald 237 Posted August 11, 2004 I personally think the contrast is better in the first rendition. My lab too often pulls detail out of my shadow area I never requested, making the image 'boring'. Stick to the more dramatic contrast, it carries the theme and has enough detail, making the scene eerier (is that a word- should be). More eerie. Link to comment
toni bauerlein sehnert 0 Posted October 17, 2004 This is a phenomenal picture, and I agree with Mike Seewald. Ditto as to his first and second comments. I like the first one better for the same reasons. Link to comment

John Peri 1,039 Posted October 25, 2005 I tried to correct a sentence above and the message disappeared altogether, so I'll say it again. This picture is a masterpiece and one of my all time favourites on PN. Link to comment
