I photographed the rocks, don't get me wrong, but as I started to walk

away I noticed how beautiful the sun shone through the short, twisted

shrubbery. Do you like the effect? This is 100% unmanipulated.

The aesthetic here is the twisted branchwork, so I suggest that you crop to emphasize it, especially since that is where you placed the sun ...

You think so? I don't know, I sort of liked the whole vignetted effect the sun and the thickening of the shrubbery gave...I'll have to check out the crop and other ways of playing with the image. Thanks!

...with Gary. In your original image there is little going on at the very bottom. You can easily lose a minimum of 10% off the bottom. This emphasizes the expanse of color above. Otherwise, a stunning photo. BTW, I liked the North Rim.

Laura, I'm afraid I have to disagree with some of the other comments you've received, it's perfect exactly as you shot it! ~ Mike

I prefer your original, uncropped version. I like the sort of haphazard symmetry the shrubery provides to 'frame' the sun, and I agree with you about the light falloff--it does make the image much more 'interesting' (forgive me for having no better description). My only concern is with the clouds, and while I thing the 'straight-line' clouds work very well in this type of image, they are out of focus, and though the narrow DOF works well with the sun in the brush, i almost with that the clouds were more in focus, or that there was a nicer bokeh, or something. I'm not sure what it is about them, but something about their out of focus nature seems to distract from the rest of the image. That said, I am being very nitpicky, and this is a very cool shot :)
