andy e 1 Posted August 2, 2004 Its wonderful to see this one again. The more I look at it, the more I truly love the lightness and the whispy contrast, particularly in the buildings. The balance of the composition is superb. Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Trying here of a impression of Chinese brush painting :) PS - am doing some long overdue housekeeping here in the hope of clearing and tiding my messy folders for uploading more of recent works :) Link to comment
yanmin 0 Posted August 3, 2004 Bravo retouch. I don't really pay much attention to public parks in this part of the world. Guess I should change my idea. Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted August 3, 2004 Taken with a digital camera very early morning, converted to B&W, high lighted to give a more impressionist feel. Thank you for comments. Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted August 3, 2004 Funny how we seem never to look around the places we live but go looking far and wide elsewhere :) You live in a part of the world so full of photo beauty, go look!! Link to comment
picture-forger 0 Posted August 3, 2004 Very nice composition and excellent fine grafical-art effect, congratulations! Link to comment
photobyas 0 Posted August 3, 2004 Dear Audrey, Although I do not have time at the moment, I did have to comment on this photo. I am quite often in China and one thing I really love there is the peaceful atmosphere of all the parks and Chinese gardens. You managed to capture exactly this feeling. Thank you for reminding me of some wonderful hours I spend at places like this. One idea about the composition: I am not sure but maybe the photo would be even more balanced if you cropped off the left tree and a little bit of the white area at the bottom. But maybe it is better the way it is. If you try it, please tell me what you think. Overall I can only repeat that this is wonderful work. Best regards, Anthony Link to comment
poutnik 1 Posted August 4, 2004 I really love the almost high-key tonality of this image and indeed, it is like a painting... Nice... Jiri Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted August 5, 2004 Everyone for the kind comments. This image started life in mute tones so the conversion seemed to high contrast B&W was easy. The morning was very still which also helped keep the water motionless. Antony, I did try your crop of removing the rock on the left, but I feel somehow the left side was off balance. Having the rock there seems to anchor and balance the overall image better. Thank you so much for taking the time to offer your suggestions. And yes, this part of the world, especially very early mornings have a special kind of magic. Link to comment
photobyas 0 Posted August 5, 2004 Finally, I could not stand the temptation to try cropping it on my own. This does not mean that I do not trust your decision but I was just curious how it is going to look like. I am not really sure which version is better. Therefore you should probably just keep yours. BTW, is this the summer palace? I was in Beijing only once without really having time to enjoy this wonderful city. Best wishes, Anthony Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted August 5, 2004 Hi Antony, your crop is interesting, it has somehow brought the whole image forward, the center building takes on a different look. Interesing.....I will take it to PS and study your version. No this was not Summer Palace. Its actually a local garden in the center of Beijing (15 minutes away from Grand Hyatt) I try to go there most times I travel to Beijing, as all the elements are there. But the draw back with shots of calm is ofcourse to get out of bed really early, getting there by 6.30 is already late! Thank you so much for trying the crop. I am grateful. Will at a later stage upload another from this place, see what you think. Regards, Audrey Link to comment
photobyas 0 Posted August 6, 2004 I will be back for your next photo from this place. Maybe I should also upload some more pictures from China to promote this fascinating country a bit more. At the moment I only uploaded some IR pictures from there. Maybe I have got some time for that starting from mid August. Best wishes, Anthony Link to comment
