If there is one photographer at this time who is an inspiration to me that is you Brian! Amazing photograph...I can't imagine the excitement you had when you see a scene like this one! Do I have to say 7/7????

Beautiful landscape, with nice composition and "slow speed" effect on the water. The contrast is nice between the foreground and background. But although your Velvia slide must be very punchy, I think the colors are just a little "too much". Otherwise, it's an exceptional shot!

Hi Gilbert! You're correct... my monitor at home is off a bit, so when I look at this from my work monitor, I see the color is a bit off, and it's a little dark too. I always try and match the scan with the slide the best I can. It's not far off, but it's enough off that I need to rescan it. Thank you.

The depth of colors and richness of this shot are tremendous. Boy, I wish I could be there right now, but I will have to be satisfied with the view you shared. Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.

Thank you TREE_ELF! As for a tripod, well, I currently carry a Manfrotto Carbone One 444D. But it might be too much tripod for a lighter camera like yours. Anything light and sturdy should do. I think it also depends on how much you want to focus on photography vs. hiking. You may not need/want a full length tripod or spend the money for the carbon fiber tripods. A good lightweight smaller aluminum tripod would probably be best for your camera. But I'm no tripodologist so please get some other opinions and take mine with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila.

Brian, I am a beginning photographer and an avid backpacker throughout California. These photos are inspirational! I'm curious, on extended trips how much photography equipment do you pack with you? It looks as if your shots cover a wide spectrum of lenses. Thanks for posting such incredible photos of places I love.

Jon, sorry, I just saw your comment. I haven't been paying much attention lately. On my trips I usually carry two camera bodies (Elan 7 and my newer 20D) and I carry a Canon 17-40 lens, a Canon 70-200 lens, and a Canon 15mm fisheye lens. I recently bought a 400mm lens that I backpack with occasionally but it's dang heavy. I carry 4 Galen Rowell/Singh-Ray GND filters (2-3 stops in both hard and soft), polarizers and warming filters, lots of film, and a full-sized carbon tripod. I also take my fishing pole and related gear too, it's not ALL about photography. :^D But unless you're there to put some serious photo time in, I wouldn't carry as much as me. If you are there to come back with lots of pics and want all the options available to you, then to me it's worth the extra weight. All together it's probably a dozen pounds or so added to my pack. A few more grunts is all.
