johncrosley 1 Posted July 25, 2004 I cannot help but admire your work. You continually astound me with your stunning work -- for instance the simple lines and wonderful colors of this image. Regards. John ;~)) Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted July 25, 2004 You have revived my interest in still life. I always say I want to take simple subjects and make them interesting. I feel you are a master at this! Link to comment
advancedphoto 0 Posted July 25, 2004 Thanks to both of you for your kind words. The inspiration for most of these still lifes comes from two middle school teachers long ago, one taught math and pushed strongly "the lowest common denominator" and the other was my first photography instructer that pushed constantly "get closer, beauty is in the details". Thanks also two both of them.David, this series of still lifes started as insomnia. I would roam the house in the middle of the night looking for subjects. The only special equipment here was a lens that could focus close. The light source was a single color corrected slide viewing light box layed on its side.I look forward to seeing the outcome of your studies.Best regards to both of you, Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 25, 2004 The photo seems nice, I think, it's hard to tell - the horrible frame is assaulting the eyes. Maybe just a simple black border would suffice? Otherwise it's like an artwork in a garish 2 AM nightclub, hitting your eyes under the black light. I generally ignore frames and try to concentrate on the image but found it hard in this case. It overwhelmes it. Just an opinion. Link to comment
advancedphoto 0 Posted July 25, 2004 Tim, tried fine-line black on this one and it didn't seem to do anything for my little candle. So I went for kitsch. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 25, 2004 It's a philosophical question then, if a very obvious frame makes the photo, then what is the worth of the photo itself? What about just the thin red one, like you have on the inside of the psychedelic one? Link to comment
