A little bit too much, despite the connection between the goose at the left and the rest of the scene, might crop out much of the left and top, leaving the 3 goslings at the L 1/3 of the frame

I think I know what you mean, but, cutting out the goose on the left would change the story the picture is trying to convey (dad looking over his family). However, I did the modifications you mentioned and it definitely changes the focus of the picture (pun intended).
