pressuredbyphotons 5 Posted July 21, 2004 A smashing photo. Looks like it has been manipulated somewhat in PS. I'd be curious to know how much work you had to do to get it to look like this. I have seen a lot of landscape that have been heavily "shopped" leaving a lot of tell tale signs. Sometimes it's a bit heavy handed and rather obvious, leaving the image to look more like a painting than a photo. Sometimes they end up looking like cliches. But I suppose that isn't important, it's the outcome that matters. And in this case, the result is amazing. Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted July 21, 2004 Paul did you rework this from the version you posted earlier? I sense some differences but I am not sure if it's just me. Link to comment
the grey house 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Amar, yes this has been re-worked to make it lighter than the previous version. I have also done some work on the sky and tones. Thanks to all for commenting. Regards Paul. Link to comment
v 0 Posted July 22, 2004 This is a god damned MASTERPIECE! sorry, if too emotional. But I find this picture totally breathtaking. I feel sorry for having no chance of seeing the places you take pics of myself. However, would I not be disappointed to see the reality, after having seen your fairy tale pictures?.... ;) Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted July 22, 2004 Paul, another (beautiful) story.IMO the blue point in the sky is a bit distructing to the the very nice atmospher, and I would have dimed it a bit. WELL DONE! Pnina Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted July 22, 2004 Yes, it has been heavily PSed. Who cares? Great work. Link to comment

gleeson 0 Posted July 22, 2004 The colors are spot-on perfect. Every wisp of green, blue, gray, and stone harmonizes to create a fantastic mood. And I very much like the ripples in the foreground, looks like a canoe has just passed by. A couple of technical issues, though: Your coastline is too much of a perfect rectangular mirror, butting seamlessly right up to the landscape. A real coastline would have at least a bit of a wiggle to it (not a perfectly straight horizontal line), and more importantly, would have some indication of where the water meets the land -- a few feet of gravel, or clay, or weeds, or erosion, or different vegetation bordering the body of water. Also, the beam of sunlight should coincide better with the highlights on the buildings. The house on the left has highlights as bright as the ones on the larger building, but it has no sunbeams directed at it. Every sunbeam in the sky should make a warm hotspot precisely where it hits the ground. Link to comment
the grey house 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Thank you all for your comments, encouragement and great suggestions. This image has been updated a few times base don comments received. It is I feel an example of the value that PN provides to the photographer - I have been able to refine (and will continue to refine) this image based on the useful feedback received. Thanks to all. Sean thanks for such a detailed and helpful response. I agree with you on all of the points you raised. The light beam was meant to suggest a highlighting behind the castle hence the highlights on top of the castle walls. However I agree it would be better to have a more direct linkage between the castle and the beam. I also fully agree on the shoreline - just not sure how to do that yet ;-) Thanks again to all. irakly 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Ha, it really looks like aliens have already came :) Paul, you have an amazing ability to show emotions in your photos with non-living subjects. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted July 23, 2004 This is super work. It's clarity and composition are wonderful. About the shoreline being jagged, I too am working on perfecting this. I'll update you when I finally figure it out! I think I've almost got it! Nice work! J. Link to comment
