Primitive Baptist Church, Cades Cove, GSMNP

This represents my first attempt at using several identically framed

photos taken at different exposures to make a single "composite"

image which holds detail in both highlights and shadows. I wanted to

evoke a somewhat solitary, pensive mood (which is how I felt when

composing the image). This church is in the much visited Cade's

Cove. The book is, of course, a bible.

This may sound odd.. but it looks a little posed :)

I really like this photo- the light is simple, but effective. Your idea with the Bible is good, although I have to admit I didn't realize at first it was a church. To make it a little less "posed," maybe the Bible could be closed, or set down on a pew, so it doesn't look like it's just hanging. But this is just my opinion. Good work!

Thanks for the comments. Of course, it is a "posed" shot. I tried to make a triangular composition with the window, bible and highlights on the floor. In essence, it is a still life. I thought of closing the bible, but I like the shades of lighting on the arched pages. The composition was largely dictated by the lighting (this was not a planned shot). If it were possible, I might have considered something similar with the altar in view, but the lighting was flat at that end of the little church. So...

I love this shot. It grabbed me right from the thumbnail view and is very pleasing to the eye. Excellent use of light and composition. very well done. 7/7
