dibaphoto 0 Posted July 16, 2004 This scene grabbed my eye as I walked around the local fair, took the shot and walk on my way. What do you think? Link to comment
luc_dewaele 0 Posted July 16, 2004 Beautifull. But it's a pity you didn't control the perspective. Luc Dewaele Link to comment
rendbezsoli 0 Posted July 16, 2004 something is really cool in this picture and something is really wrong, i cannot say what those are. every time i look at it, i get a different first impression Link to comment
james_kellar1 0 Posted July 17, 2004 Nice image. It reminds me a bit of a Joel Meyerowitz photo. Maybe not executed as well as he would have. But then he is a master. The off perspective of the phone booth does not bother. I wish you had moved to the right a bit more to make the girl and the booths more as the central point of view. I like the feel of the diffent color temps. Link to comment
tholte 16,949 Posted July 22, 2004 Bobby, if someone says the perspective is off or something is wrong with the photo but they can't put their finger on it, it is usually a really good image. Link to comment
beau 1664876222 1 Posted July 23, 2004 Hey Bobby, thanks for your comments; I'll take you up on giving you a detailed critique. I think this is almost brilliant. The little string of lights at the top is outstanding, and there's something witty about the trailer poking up above the garish fence. I love the half-half framing and the exposure is just right. I think what doesn't work, though, is what's happening in the lower right -- the girl is not making a clear statement relating to the other elements. Her presence is indeterminate while everything else (look at that trash can!) has a tension. Did you watch her for some kind of revealing movement? Did you try one with the phone booths empty? Did you wait in case someone else came through to make a call? Maybe you did, but having seen and composed this great shot, I hope you were thinking: "I'm gonna stand here until a guy in a clown suit walks into that booth." I'm exaggerating, obviously, but you get my point. It's a sweet photo that's almost a classic. Link to comment
