Icarus

pedja

f/16, 1/750 sec. This was shot during a diving competition. This man has just taken off from the bridge into the river about 25 meters below. Immediately after the leap he has to make some figures. One of them is half a spin, which he is performing at the moment of exposure.

Great capture, although a subtle fill-in flash would add up to a better result IMO. Maybe :)

Very original photo...Something different from your last photos. Is it just me or does the horizon look tilted (the buildings in the background look tilted)?

Thanks for the comments.

Jay, the reason that the buildings in the background are tilted is that I pointed a wide angle lens upwards. As you can see, the skyscraper closer to the center of the frame is less tilted than the one near the edge.

Darek, the idea of adding some fill in flash crossed my mind, but my camera has the sync speed of only 1/90 sec, and I didn't have a separate flash unit.

Miran,

I have some interesting people shots taken on the beach in Budva, and will be posting them in the following weeks.

Well captured. However, I am not particularly enthused by the shot. Why is he there? Why is he in that position? Will he crash into the buildings?

Fantastic shot. I like the sun and composition but I would like to see it a little bit lighter.

Pedrag, This is a good photo, especially into the sun without any lens flare.......

I took a similar photo last month in Ontario, Canada, of a trampoline artist in a street fair...I was lucky to have the sunlight behind me, and the traffic light in front..

A stunning shot. I disagree with suggestions to use fill flash. I think seeing more detail in the diver would subtract from the simple beauty of this image.

This is indeed a great capture, especially technically because there is no lens flare as someone else already wrote. Aesthetically the curve of the body nicely connects the sun and the buildings. As a minor detail, the crane in the background mirrors the orientation of the body. ;-)

Maybe, just maybe, some rotating and cropping could create a more dramatic image, but I'm not quite sure.

I would have preferred Icarus to be less centered in the frame and also with a more diagonal position. The buildings in the background are a little distracting. As a silhouette to me this looks fine. I'm not necessarily looking for details on the figure itself here, and with fill flash this would probably not have achieved such a dramatic effect.

Well Done. I like the buildings as part of the horizon, it creates the additional sensation of height. Grey scale was an excellent choice.
