Owen & Darko: Your comments are always appreciated. This here being rather a "classical" portrait in terms of composition, I tried to focus and to found this picture on light and expressivity. Glad you liked it. Cheers

Fantastic portrait. The look this old woman has here makes this shot unic. What is also interesting is her kerchief. I wonder if this is typical for a woman at her age in Romania. Cheers.

Sarah, Paul, Richard and Pnina : Thanks for your comments. Well, the kerchiefs are typical for women of her age living in rural or mounty regions of the country (I thought you know that Paul). Pnina: this is exactly what I wanted to achieve - to show her life engraved on her face, look and expression. Thank you, folks. Cheers,

Made my day this morning with this one Adrian. A really good portrait in black & white is hard to beat. I hope you do more of this kind of work.

She seems to be so amused by the whole situation! I almost hear her saying: fine, fine, don't worry, if this is what you wish I'll stand still so that you can take that photo...

I would have like to see more of the place where she was photographed. Cheers!

My purpose was to bring her

expression forward, therefor I've concentrated my capture on her and not on the surroundings. I've chosen this one out of a series of 7 shots because of that reason. The other 6 shots are not excluding the surroundings at all but they didn't appeal to me as this one did. Cheers

Superb portrait and a phenomenal Black and White image! Superb tonalities and texture shown on the very lines on her face. I might have burned in the shirt/top above the sweater but below the scarf. There it is devoid of any texture. But stark, amazing portrait and the fact that the texture is missing is merely besides-the-fact with such a powerful portrait. The fact that this image doesn't seem exploitative and is such a natural expression of your subject, makes this a really positive image for me too.

One of my favorite portraitist's; W. Eugene Smith often commented that it was strange to his technical sensibilities that he would win a Pulitzer prize for an image that was predominantly out-of-focus and extremely grainy. That image was made in the middle of a war and as a combat photographer. His technically superb images are his Life magazine images from his Country Doctor series and his portraits of Dr. Albert Schweitzer made in the jungles of Africa. if you're not familiar with him just Google him and I'm sure you'll get a ton of hits. I left you a way-good rating as it feels warranted. Very nice portfolio, albeit a small one. I hope you'll update it too?
