Was this taken with a standard lens? The colors and details are nice, but the image seems a bit distorted; probably due to the lens being less than 70mm in focal length.

The lens is 50mm, concerning the 300D 1.6 factor it is 80mm in a matter of fact.

I really like the composition, but the coloring is a bit off (in my opinino)

The straightforward stare of the child, balanced by the tilted head of the mother (?), combined with the color tones used in this photo elevate it above normal snapshots. There is a nice interplay between the two, captured in a natural looking manner. Good job!
