The only thing missing from this photo is more contrast. I love the positioning of the bird in the foreground and the person on the dock.

My opinion is "chase the duck". The child on the dock would have been my focus. I like the overall composition and the idea of the photo.

I like the way the duck seems to be philosophically looking at the kid standing in the distance... as if the duck is really a higher life form from annother planet sent here to look stupid yet really observe us all and you've caught the duck in a moment when it finally becomes obvious.

 

The scale, where the duck is larger is a niice way to draw my eye to this sort of randomly strange thought, rather than a more post-card-like image, you've created a narrative of the mind, which I find a more risky, but more interesting proposition.

Looks like a great opportunity, but the composition is not pleasing. It should be more to the right and the foreground is too dark.

I like everything but the duck.

nice shot, to even improve it I would remove part of the bottom of the image (foreground) to get rid if the unnecessarily large dark area that does not bring much to the picture

I would probably also get rid of some of the dark foreground. Otherwise I find the photo very, very pleasing!

I like the duck - strangely surreal. Without it the photo would be pretty but less individual.

Isn't it the second time you post this picture for critique? What was wrong with the first round of responses? They were in line with the current crop.

I think this is one of your better photos and I like the composition the way it is -- with the duck! IMHO, it deserves highers ratings than it got.

 

I believe I also understand why you did not add more contrast -- the mood is better preserved with softer lighting.

 

Finally, I wonder if folks realize that those are two rather large volcanoes in the background!!
