Lunch Time Hitchhiker

mplonsky

A macro 'accident'. I was photographing the assasin bug eating when the fly stopped in. I guess it was a thrill seeker.

Since macros are about details, I encourage viewing at the larger size.

Stunning image Professor. What species of insect is the black one. He/she must be an extremely aggresive beast to subdue and then lunch on a Praying Mantis, a voracious monster itself. I reckon the EXTREME thrillseeker fly is just enjoying watching the PM getting rolled! (You didn't glue him there did you?) ;=D

Thanx to all for the kind feedback. Erin- I believe the predator is called an assasin bug. I am told the prey is some kind of plant or seed bug. The whole scene is probably 1.5 cm across with the hitch hiker being just a couple of mm.

I think the big black one is called a predatory wasp!

It lays it's eggs inside aphids and such, and you can guess what happens

to the aphids!

I believe they use these wasps on vynyards in california,to keep aphids

away!
