Very cool lighting. Let me preface my comments with "I am no expert", but I have a few thoughts. First the foreground is too symmetric for my taste especially given the asymmetry with the background trees. I would have tried to place the main tree away from the center and moved the opening in the water as well. But again, I would not be surprised if others prove me wrong. Take care, chris

Chris, I totally understand you and even I too don't like this symetry. But there was a tree which I wanted to exclude from the photo and that left me with no option but to make the photo symetric. Thanks for your comments!!

Chris may have a point about the symmetry, but that can be fixed to a small degree by removing the assymetrical borders of the image, i.e., crop it square. The square format is perfectly symmetrical to begin with, and might act as a reinforcing agent to work with the symmetry of the composition. No guarantees, but it's worth a try. Personally, I don't mind the way it is because you have the water moving up into the frame on the right, so it's not purely symmetrical, just somewhat so. And the fogginess can be enhanced by depressing the white values, if you cared to.

I'm no expert either (just learning) but do believe that if I lived a life following the rules all the time my life would be dull. I do like this picture a lot. You have a foreground, a midground and a background composed so well. the contour of the bushes and the water lines float your eyes throughout the scene until you got to the tree and that's the only place where I have a problem and the journey comes to a halt(Christopher's point, I believe). I much prefer to push the tree aside and open the way to be able to go explore the depth of the scene. I know we don't always get the chance to capture the best shot but quickly recomposed the picture a bit for my preference.

Thank you for sharing

kind regards.

Cyrus! that's way better !! How could you do that ? Just select the tree with it's surroundings and copy-paste it to the left ? Man..I've gotta steal that edit from you, can I ? Thanks for your comment!

Symmetric, assymetrical, who cares? obviously some people do.If I look at an image & it evokes an emotional response, I like it.Why? The eye follows the narrow opoening in the foreground, hangs a left to check out the leafless tree, then turns 180' to examine the misty trees, hangs another left & disappears forever into the misty wilderness.Regards-Ross
