Good theme fit PT. Though it would have been tough without the cacoon in the background. I think the squared crop works, but would have worked better if it were more lined up with the square of the fence (in other words 1/2 an inch or so to the left and slightly down - or maybe out and down so as not to cut off the feet). I also have some concern regarding the coloring. I tend to think of these as having a brighter yellow look to them. Is this one duller because of his recent exodus? Would a fill flash have helped? The fence seems to be in bright sun and yet the board and butterfly seem to be in the shadow... hmmm. Anyway, not a bad shot PT with pretty good theme fit.

Yes, not a bad one. Like Thomas, I would only have moved the camera just a tad to avoid the butterfly merging with the cocoon in the background. If possible I would also have moved the camera up a bit, and point down a bit more to avoid the bright line on top. Apart from that, good theme fit and well done. The color does not bother me - I think Tomas is right about the butterfly's age, and it's effect on color.

Oh, and PT - no need to post the image location in the pics details - we have pleny PTs in USA, but if you're in Belgium or Malaysia the location is a bit of a giveaway for PTs identity :)

Cheers,

Tom

This is a reasonably nice shot of a butterfly. While I see how this fits the theme, it's a bit of a stretch--I guess escaping the chainlink fence could also be read as part of this theme. As someone else noted, the colors are a little washed out--did you use a polarizer in what is obviously fairly bright light? Also, the white area the top of the frame is a distraction and it would have been nice to have some separation between the butterfly and the cocoon.

I can't add much to what the others have said, just that the exposure seems to be very well handled. It looks like most of the butterfly was in the shade with very strong light around it. I wonder if PT used a reflector or fill flash here?

Ideally, if the "roll down the window" of the Theme is here "get out of your cocoon", then I'd like to see more of the cocoon and maybe even more of the wood and fence. I appreciate that it's not easy of course with a butterfly to get the image as sharp and well exposed as this AND a perfect composition.

I like the lateral thinking Theme wise.

PS Is the butterfly missing some legs?
