toddlaffler 0 Posted July 4, 2004 Well, I was making some of my not so famous ice tea which includes a bit of honey. That got me thinking a bit back when I was a child and was always facinated at how when you dropped ice cream or something on the ground that within a few miutes there would be ants all around it. So I put some honey on a white board and put it in my yard. Low and behold, ants started showing up, and I started shooting. If you are serious about hanging this on your wall, I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks. Warm Regards, Todd Postscript: Martin, you asked about how I came up with this idea. Well, someone helped me job my memory. I must have seen a similar photograph done by Peter Steeper a while back and stuffed it in my brain as something I would like to try some day. So, this is certainly not a 100% original idea. Link to comment
glenn_rippie 0 Posted July 4, 2004 Well, what can I add? I could comment about its technical attrbutes and composition. But, I want to tell you how it affects me: it's whimsical and makes me smile, bad day or no. It's creatively fresh and shows me something new. And, its allegorical -- most folks are orderly and polite; one guy's late; one's heading out early (spouse & kids?); but one's got all six feet in the goodies). Reminds me of a few other places and times. I've been looking around the site for a while now. This image decided it; I joined, and this is my first comment. This image is not my typical style, but I adore it. I wouldn't have seen it many places. Thanks, Todd! Link to comment

bentes_world 0 Posted July 4, 2004 Geeze .. when have you been visiting my kitchen ... it is an absolutely very funny, very eye catching and very originally photo. The whole composition makes it ... reflections in the wet.. the performance of the ants.. and your eyes to see it. Link to comment

salvatore.mele 1 Posted July 5, 2004 Witty and amazing. I like this one even more than the other similar picture, thanks to the funny title and dynamic composition. Question: was there anything additional in the setup in your backyard? Any blocking of direct light, or some ways to diffuse it? I see no clear shadows... but I'm zero in the macro department. Cheers, Link to comment
toddlaffler 0 Posted July 5, 2004 There wasn't anything special really. I put the white board under the shade of a large tree, so that was my "difuser" if you will. I overexposed a lot too to try and blow out the white background, but even that didn't quite do the trick, so I had to use PS to finish the job. Regards, Todd Link to comment
marvin_price 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Looking at this photo, I thought this is no simple accident. So I looked at your photo.net collection. It's so great that I knew this photo was no simple accident. So I googled you. I see you are an accomplished photographer. People should also visit your website. http://www.toddlaffler.com/ Link to comment
toddlaffler 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Thank you SO much for your kind words. When someone pays me a nice compliment like that , I don't take it lightly. I don't know if I've ever been "googled" before, but I feel all warm and tingly. :) Warm Regards, Todd Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I like this one, too. I had assumed the yellow was egg yolk when I saw your other posting. I guess honey makes more sense. These are very appealing images - not quite sure why - perhaps the form and that it's something different. I like the way the ants line up around the edge of the honey. Your title works well for this one! Link to comment
armandino 0 Posted November 19, 2004 Always nice to see a shot that differs. "Late for dinner" is a perfect caption. Well done! 7/7 Link to comment
