The background looks much too busy for me. Too distracting. I would use a more neutral background or at the very least, move the subject further from the background and use shallow depth of field to throw the background out of focus.

I trust you understand that the background is not, in fact, too busy or distracting. Since the background is abstract, it creates interest not distraction. The eye goes to it but always comes back to the subject. The subject is compelling nice textured hands and face displayed to good effect. Something defiant in the man's expression? Good use of coordinating and complementary colors between the subject and the background. The only discordant note comes from the stool which doesn't coordinate well with anything else. Is it cropped too closely to the one knee? Maybe, but that's a nit. As always when viewing pictures of people, one inevitably comes up with a story. My story is that the man is an artist and that the background is his painting and he's staring out at us, his audience, saying "This is me, so there!" At any rate, I give it a 6 for originality for the choice of the background; and a 6 for aesthetics for an interesting idea well presented.

Hi!, I saw this and couldn't help making it into this! Hope you don't mind. Great colors and without the hands apparent in the picture, they are apparent in the painting, and the watch indicates the time of the painting, or that it is ticking to get back to it. Love the colors, so thanks much.

I am glad you don't mind! I like the original also very much. Yes, I am connected with Marco, and though we are here in Southern California, (I, born and raised in Los Angeles), I have had the pleasure of visiting S.F. with him. (and I set up this shot there!)
