First time user here. Not sure what to say. Self "portrait."

Not a bad start J. Don't worry too much about the ratings, and have fun. There are a lot of fine photographers here to learn from. That is exactly what I am doing here anyway.

Welcome to PN :-) I'd suggest you crop some of the dead space from the right of this picture, you will be amazed at the difference it will make.

Welcome to P.N - I echo one of the comments about living for the comments and loosing focus on the ratings - I have had some real jerks (usually with no work posted themselves - or really crappy images) drop by and leave a 2/2 or a 3/3 on some of my finest images. While I agree that not everyone will like my work I have seen other peoples comments about these individuals and their rating style. What I do is I go look at the work of those rating mine and then I decide if I am to consider what they said as constructive. Ok leaving that all aside, I am only taking pictures seriously for the last 3 months with the purchase of a nice camera. I love your self portrait - well done - I think the image could be somewhat sharper but I love the job you did with lighting - as we see the sun is on your hair from behind but somehow you have lit the front of your face/body too. I think the additional garden elements are distracting and if you had some backdrop cloth or something similar it could make a difference there. Additionally you are pretty and are photogenic and it will be interesting to see what else you turn up in the area of self portraits.
