Autumnal fir Cl'oak

ian cameron

I took this a few years back on a visit to Derwent Water in the Peak District, England. I was captivated by the last light striking the skeletal spruce trees which seemed to envelop and protect the wrapped around the two naked oak trees in a protective cloak.

I loved the way the last rays of light striking the spruce trees seem

to envelop the two naked Oak trees. It's not often I'm as pleased

with the title as I am with the photograph. Hope you enjoy.

I was not as struck by the oaks as I was the shadows a texture in the background. I wonder if there might have been a stronger composition in using the shadows and bright areas in the background as the primary subject in the photo.

I tried a different crop, cutting off 15% the bottom and 5% off the right, placing the right oak closer to the bottom right corner. This works better for me because it places more emphasis on the background texture, but still uses the oaks in the composition. The V's in the upper area are beautiful.

Excellent composition - it really stood out to me as I was browsing. I think David's suggestion might work also. Love the texture in the trees and beautiful, warm tones elsewhere.
