It needs some fill on the right side of your body to separate the shadows from the background. The black backround is fine, but the shadows just drop off into them with no tonality. Also, relax your toes...

Amy,as always, you make good use of props. The rack itself along with the brick sets the mood. I have been lurking in this forum for a while and I find your work most interesting. But on this shot, I find the shadow to right of the model appearing as a void rather than an element of the composition, and the pose with the hair covers too much.

In addition to filling the void, it might bring out highlights in the hair and seperate it slightly from the rack. Nice detail on the back and shoulder. Tense toes?

I must admit, I am perplexed by the "toes" comment... I mean, I am standing up, so I suppose there is some tension there, but...?
But, anyway, thanks for the comments and input, everyone, I appreciate it...

The quality and direction of the lighting could be different... for such an intense and dramatic subject, I think the lighting could be harsher and more overhead so the shadow would fall to the floor, rather than to the side of the figure (I agree that the shadow is distracting). I personally don't mind the dark shadows, but tying the hair back might look better.

rendition seems effective with that level of fill. you could try a film noir variation where the shadow of the rack is projected on a lighter colored wall- just enough to be seen. a good place to use hot lights.

I don't know if it's me or my monitor but I see a hint of vertical lines on the black background like it might be wide boards. I'd like to see a low light on the left that's right against the backgroud that would light it without affecting the rack or maybe just more even light on the rack that would throw the shadow where it wouldn't be seen. Didn't notice anything unusual about the toes.....

I like the set of this photo, i agree the shadow to your right creates a void, but it also adds something to the whole mood of the work.

I think your toes are lovely......

This whole folder is very original. The composition of all photos is just incredible. It's hard for many of us to achieve that while we behind camera, you managed to do that while being in front! If you could share your technic of self portraite with us-that would be great! Of course, very few of us would look as stunning in front of camera as you.

How did you do this one?

Hi,

I love the photo but the title I don't understand, since that is surely a trellis and not a rack. Of course the old English rack was used for different purposes than the modern trellis.

Cheers.
