arniemilowsky 0 Posted June 19, 2004 I like the image, but the pink is a bit distracting; maybe, selectively desaturating the pink flower in the background...?? Link to comment
venicia_l 0 Posted June 19, 2004 Manolis and Arnie,Thank you very much for your suggestions. I kind of thought the oof magenta flowers in the background complemented the diagonal line, lower right to upper left. I guess the image works better when it's viewed larger. I printed it out 12 x 18 and immediately got an order for a print run. The customer would not let me make any changes. "No!," she said. This was a frustrating little project of mine. This was the ONLY Calla that really opened well in my garden this spring. The others just stayed collapsed on themselves. I had envisioned doing a whole BUNCH of Calla images. They wilt SO quickly. This one lasted only a day in this condition. I had just sold my Nikkor 28-105 Macro and was waiting for my 2.8 105 Micro Nikkor to arrive. All I had was my Nikkor 135 AIS which is not a macro lens. I used it with several extension tubes to get this. The light was changing constantly - the sun was going in and out of the morning clouds. And exposue was a real challenge with no auto exposure capability.VL Link to comment
root 0 Posted June 20, 2004 To say that someone wanted to buy a print is not to say that it can't be improved. The comments about a balanced composition and control of the background (and I would add, OOF foreground leaves) are correct. Link to comment
venicia_l 0 Posted June 20, 2004 Carl,I wasn't arguing the point. The same image can have a completely different "look" at different sizes. I first printed an 8 x 10 which is nice but not all that interesting. Frankly, I was disappointed, but printed it at 12 x 18 anyway. The large print just "works." The customer looked at the smaller print and admitted if she had seen only that she wouldn't have been interested. Also, it may look very different on your monitor than it does on mine. Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts.VL Link to comment
