Wait ... is there a slug in the corner ... near that rock? :-) jk ... this is gorgeous, as all of your mountain landscapes are. You're an inspiration to me, Steve!!

I'm not used to lakes that color, Steve, since we don't have glaciers around here. The color is very striking, but I am not sure if I really like it or not. I guess I would have to see it live to appreciate it fully. The picture is certainly well-done and I would not want to take anything away from it.

They are greatly appreciated.

Lannie, the cyan colors of the glacier-fed lakes in the Canadian Rockies are, indeed, unbelievable. I was in complete awe the first time I saw one. I do hope that you one day have the chance to visit the Canadian Rockies.

A wonderfully done well captured scene! This indeed is the true color of these lakes. I was at Moraine Lk. taking a shot in '99 when someone from the former USSR told me he thought the pics from these CND lakes were propaganda and artificially colored until he visited in person. :)

Thanks, Steve. So do I. The angle, of course, intensifies the effect.

I'm still trying to figure out why azure should bounce back as cyan. Some wavelengths are obviously being absorbed by the particulates in the water, but some are not being absorbed, but reflected back. On the ocean, by contrast, the azure sky often reflects back a deeper, darker blue in cold water, whereas in the Gulf Stream the microscopic organisms are also absorbing some of the blues and bouncing back some of the cyan.

Let me ponder these things. Is there a scectroscopist in the house?

An image of Peyto Lake sparked my interest in Canada, and this photo is one of the best I've seen! A little jewel in the forest...

Another beautiful capture. And I can testify that indeed the water IS this color. Glacial lakes are bright turquoise.....and to watch the sun or clouds move across them is a thing of beauty!
