Headshot

kelvin_nash

Natural light from a window. Shot f2.8 or 4 @ 1/60, I believe. The picture was sharpened slightly to match the scanned print.

This could be a great shot with better lighting. I haven't studied portrait lighting, but straight-on lighting is rarely flattering, I think. I think she was facing a window, so you might try turning her head more to the side and using a sheer curtain for a more diffuse effect. If the model is yours - have fun with such a beautiful subject!

This shot looks a tad overexposed. For darker skin tones you should try under exposing by 1/2 or 2/3rds of a stop, it'll make the colour a lot richer.

The highlights on her cheeks and forehead look almost white, which can't be right? Possibly move the right source slightly more to the side.

This girl has a wonderful smile, and you've caught it well.

I know that it is overexposed. It was a throwaway exposure, but I do like the idea of using something as a diffuser. I would have needed some diffusion and a reflector to really get the exposure right.
