tom t 0 Posted June 16, 2004 Nice find PT! I am assuming this was a saturated color shot? The grey (paint I assume) looks very unnatural in this shot, but that was perhaps PT's intention? Shot in broad daylight it seems - the shadows add unneccesary clutter. Did you try a similar shot in the shadow or at an overcast moment? As for composition I think it's a bit busy. The box-like thing to the right draws a tad too much attention. Ditto for the stuff at the top. A crop suggestion attached. My 2cts of course - feel free to disagree, Tom Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted June 16, 2004 Not many things come in sevens, so a good find. The crossover of cables on the right is nice and the dribbling look of the paint adds something to this too. I agree with Tom on the need to crop, but offer an alternative with more emphasis on the shadow rather than less. Plus I fiddled with the tones. Link to comment
tom t 0 Posted June 16, 2004 Dominique, Your tone fiddling makes a *lot* of difference. Lots better! On the crop we can agree to disagree :) Link to comment
michael_ward1 0 Posted June 16, 2004 Well done, Dominique. The increased emphasis on shadow and the tone correction makes this one much more appealing, though I also like the original. I especially like the outdoors look that the shadows (and the tonal change) bring. This aint't no PeeCee we lookin at, kids. Makes me want to loose one of those wires and see what's underneath. livvie 0 Posted June 17, 2004 am not to taken with this personally - bit bland, uninspiring and, dare i say, boring for my tastes - sorry. others like it tho so im guess i'm the odd one out here. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted June 17, 2004 This was NEW paint on a ferry. There was little saturation adjustment and, in fact, the two cords and plugs on the left side of the image are cloned from the next cord/plug to the right. In the original, there were only 5 plugs/cords. I do like the suggested crop/sepia color change. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted June 17, 2004 The original jumps out on the screen and the jpeg compression on PN decreases the brilliance of the original image. Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted June 17, 2004 PT, you fooled me (hadn't noticed the cloning but see it clearly now). Like I said, not many things come in sevens ... ! Now I demand to see the colour version, please. White? Pale blue? Orange would be nice ... Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted June 17, 2004 Actually, that is the colour image with very little PS other than the cloning. The colours were strictly black and grey. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted June 17, 2004 this is about as colourful as I can make it on short notice Link to comment
darrellwhittle 0 Posted July 6, 2004 It has seven in it (albeit with a bit of PS fiddling!) so it has themefit i suppose. Apart from that i must say it leaves me a bit cold. The pattern is not particularly intersting and the colour (or lack of it) is, well...a little boring. I am normally a big fan of taking an everday object and making it something special by isolating it from its surroundings but here i just don't think it works very well - its just too flat and repetative IMO.
