We've all seen pictures of open fruit and flowers that remind us of glorious female anatomy. Now I see a picture of a woman that reminds me of fruit. ;-)

I agree with Beth. It is too clean and too perfect. However, I think that is exactly what makes it so striking. The subject matter and the lighting are skweaky clean and executed with surgical precision. I think we Americans should lighten up and enjoy the view. Great image!

I too agree with the comparison to a flowers pedal or a fruit....but what about the form in whole...the angle of the body...so femenine...why do some always wanna see a dirty side....this is clean..in concept as in presentation...!!!!

How is this shot offensive? It's the human body. At some point we all have to face the fact that we have one. This shot is great and is not at all sexulised or gratuitous.

The tones are aesthetic ... the object ... not to me. Too clean, too artificial, too made up - and it reduces the woman to an organ. Too exposing, not enough secrecy and privacy.

BTW - I yet have to see similar work exposing male bodyparts.

"and it reduces the woman to an organ."

this is such an ignorant and utterly stupid statement. i'm amazed this statement comes from a woman.

Heh. This is funny how people react saying about "the amount of biological detail" - but if a nipple or a hand is pictured with exactly the same amount of detail, everything is fine. I find this point of view sooo terribly artificial and bogus... come on, this is human body. No matter whether this is a hand or an ass hole, it can still be beautifully pictured. This is not to say I love this photo very much, I like some of your other work more, but I don't think it makes much sense to reject this picture because of that.

I guess I'm stating the obvious. Whatever :-)

I too immediately thought "flower" when I first saw it. Flower of womanhood perhaps. I don't even think it's "adult". That term seems to be just a euphemism for pornographic, which this is definitely not. I do not think there is inherently anything untoward about bodies. Nudity is just mother nature revealed as we were created. There is controversy - perhaps - because we have hidden the natural and normal for far too long. Secrecy breeds curiosity. This is an excellent execution of a different and aesthetic view of one natural, normal, beautiful part of human anatomy that is far too unknown. It is very well executed and the photographer has made an articulate statement of his intent and I find it has artistic merit on several levels. He would have gotten well deserved praise in my art school at least. I found one comment of it's presentation as not "natural" interesting as well. I, too, would like the subject matter portrayed as a natural object with inherent beauty not necessitating artificial manipulation. Still, this is quite lovely. My only complaint, indeed of the entire folder, is that the images are too small for my old eyes to be able to tell much beyond general composition and general subject matter. I wish I could discern detail better in some of them.

I see a lot of defending of this photo from invisible offenders. Who called it porn, anyway? Although I don't believe it's porn, I must say I'm having a really tough time commenting on this from work (I'm the only woman in an office of about 16 men). Well, I guess you could say it does reduce woman to an object, as she is without a face and/or personality. But, this isn't a study of a woman, is it? It's a study of a woman's body part, and a good job of that. Anyway, I would like to point out to those folks who keep calling it "natural," etc. Unless this is a girl of around 12, I think it would be more "natural" if there was hair, no?

Funny that some are making a big deal about this (how did you get her to shoot this? You could have shot it from a higher angle, etc) Are some people uncomfortable with the female anatomy?

This is really very nice. I think the debate about whether it's porn or not is a non-issue that doesn't need comment. Objectification? Well, we've all taken Media Studies 101, I think. Another non-issue. All nude photography, head present or not, is objectification really. But we objectify people everyday in real life....so who cares? I think all artists male/female should feel free to portray what they desire, without worrying about this issue.

This is a really nice image. It was suggested that there could be more contrast (I think) but I think the soft tones work with the composition and subject very well. It conveys a certain sensitivity to the subject somehow, in my opinion. Well done.

I think overall the composition, angle and tonality are beautifully executed. As for the subject matter itself, well... on one hand it's debatable whether this is a "natural" representation of the female body. A 12-yr old girl, yes.. an adult woman, no. This woman obviously has chosen to make herself look bare (no judgment on that, to each his own) but in my opinion it's almost suggesting that hairless is more beautiful (or more appropriate for "art") which I would disagree with. (After all, how many explicit nudes have we seen that show hair in this portion of the female anatomy?) However I don't wish to create a debate. It would be nice to see more natural depictions of the female body (hair and all). In my opinion, with the proper lighting and angle it can be done in a very beautiful and sensual way! On another note, I too would love to see more nudes of men. The male body is just as beautiful and so rarely shown! And I'm not talking about shots of sculpted pecs and biceps. Anybody else agree?

I agree, only in part. There should be more nudes of every type of person, not just simply "perfectly" shaped women. However I totally disagree with the "12 year old girl" comment. I've known plenty of women who shave or wax, it's not that uncommon actually. So to me it's certainly the representation of a woman.
