asimh 0 Posted June 12, 2004 i like your subject here - i forget what this type of architecture is called. is the original a tad soft to you or am i seeing some compression artifact? i think this shot could also work well as a b/w due to the light/dark tones. Link to comment
carlyshort 0 Posted June 12, 2004 ha, i like this a lot, the building looks like it is leaning Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Monschau is quite famous for this kind of buildings. You should try to walk through the town after a few glasses of wine. Could be a very funny experience. Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 13, 2004 The german name for the architecture is 'Fachwerk', but I wouldn't know the english name for it. I scanned the original at 1600 dpi and than croped of a lot. The photo was taken from around 100 meters away. This is the most unusual building in town but I couldn't get closer to it. I tried a B&W version as well, but I prefer this coloured one. Thanks a lot for your comment. Regards, Uwe. Link to comment

roland_ehrlich2 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Nice detail, Uwe. First thought it was a reflection in the water upside down, then I thought, could be Monschau ;-) Greetings from Cologne! Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Monschau, I went there once when I was only a kid. It must have been one of the most picturesque villages that I have ever seen. You have captured this very well, Uwe. Thank you for reminding me of my youth... Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Thanks for your nice words. I've been a few times to Koeln when I was living in Germany. Very nice city. I hope to hear from you again. Regards, Uwe. Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Nice to hear from you. I'm glad I could bring up some good memories of older day's. It sounds like your youth was decades ago. See ya, Uwe. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted June 13, 2004 My visit to Monschau would have been about 34 years ago, so yes, ancient history Uwe... :) Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 13, 2004 That is really a while ago. Where else did you go in Germany? Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted June 14, 2004 Hey, it was a long time ago, but I do remember that we were staying on a camping ground in the south of the dutch province of Limburg. The trip to Monschau was part of a rountrip that started with a visit to Aachen. I'm pretty sure we came back via Belgium. I'll certainly never forget looking down on this wonderful village that you captured a slice of. Unfortunately, it was long before my own camera days... Link to comment

henrimanguy 0 Posted June 14, 2004 The moment is not very well chosen, with the house half in the sun and half in the shadow. Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 15, 2004 Thank you for your visit and leaving a comment. Unfortunately there is not always the time to hang around for better light. I would have loved to spend more time in Monschau, but we had to move on. Cheers, Uwe. Link to comment
