Interesting photo - but what happened to the Falls? Can you share some technical details?

Having grown up 20 miles from Niagara Falls and never having been on the Maid - always "too expensive"), I don't recall ever seeing the Falls completely obscurred like this (although admittedly, I avoided them in the dead of Winter.

Having taken many photographs of the falls, I like the abstract nature of your shot. It really provides the feel that one has when they are there.

Kimberlee and Brian, thanks for taking the time to share your observations. I'm glad the image was able to prompt a response strong enough to warrant comments.

Tom, having grown up near the falls I should think you'd know she is an unpredicable mistress, strong and exciting yet fickle and sneeky:) Seriously ,I wanted the focus to be on the maid , the water and the mist and not the falls. In the original the falls were visible slightly but after a few manipulations( backlighting adjusted, inverted, levels tweaked, colour removed, grain added.........) I was able to get the effect I wanted. Thanks for commenting.

I've never visited the falls, but the abstract presentation conveys a sense of power and mystery to me. I like the photo -- it's a different take on an often photographed subject.

Having grown up in the area, I have viewed this scene a million times... You have managed to put a new spin on it... Nice!

Michael, I'm glad you recognized the effort. I guess the falls are something of a hackneyed spectacle made even more trite by the excessive commercialization of the area. This image was taken last summer on a vacation spent with my five year old and husband. Needless to say my five year old was blown away by the falls for 2 minuets and then demanded we return to the "Hill". Yuk. I at least rekindled a sense of awe at something I hadn't seen for some time....the power and mystery of the falls. Thanks for the comment. By the way ....what's up with the casinos? Do the developers intend on leaving any green space?

Sally, this has a wonderful feel to it! I love the grain and the graphic quality of it.I'm not familiar with the Falls at all and never would have guessed that was even back there! It looks like it's escaping a tidal wave to me - there's a definite feeling of a powerful force chasing after the boat. Nicely done!
