Bilal Zaheer 0 Posted June 10, 2004 I've seen a lot of pictures on the subject and they are nothing spectacular. But this one is the most aesthetically pleasing i've seen so far. has a dreamy feel to it too. well done! Link to comment

rpallagi 0 Posted June 10, 2004 Firs I converted the image to blac and white using Petteri's BW action... its still not perfect action, takes time to figure out, but it worth the try. I missed BW ever since I got my DSLR and this gave me back the joy of BW... at the end of his explanation you can download the action: http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html So I tweaked the channels (red, blue, green) to get the feeling I was after, first by setting layer for film, then channel mixing the film. Then did the "setup darkroom" option, where I tweaked the dodging and soft light, and contrast and toning.. When I got the results I merged the layers, but something was not right. I wanted to focus the attention to the subject even more. I was lucky since the texture on the wall was perefect to do the dodging, nothing hard. So I used the dodge tool set to 60 percent strength to midtones, and using large brush, and manually lightened the surroundings of the subject. The poor man. Next to him is a milk bottle. I found that very odd, regarding the heavy alcohol use of these unfortunate human beings. I dont really feel right to put this image up, I just wanted your opinion. Someone told me not to put it on the public space, because it is against the rights of the person whose face is recognizable. Since each country has different laws on photographing in the public I am really not sure if what I did with this post is right. But the photo I really liked... original photo: Link to comment
phil_ledwith 0 Posted June 10, 2004 This has a real feel to it. Apart from the carton in the left corner it could almost be timeless, from any point in the last 100 years. Link to comment
asimh 0 Posted June 10, 2004 even more amazing when first seeing the original! you have some great talent there! thanks for posting your process. Link to comment

stephengalea 0 Posted June 10, 2004 Well done for the composition in this image... Also thx for sharing an explanation on how you achived this succesful black and white tones which is not flat and full of detail. Only thing i would have burned sightly is the wall...Just a bit though to eliminate the white and turn it grey.. HOWever well done Link to comment

wernher 0 Posted June 11, 2004 Look at how the outstretched leg leads you to his face and how the black dirt on the wall frames his face. Or perhaps the dirt is even emanating from him? This is simply excellent. Brilliant job. Link to comment
