rmortenson 0 Posted June 6, 2004 You caught him at just the right moment. The black background really sets the colors off well. Link to comment
augus 0 Posted June 6, 2004 Looks like it is Kathakali, a classical dance form of the Indian State of Kerala, mostly enacting scenes from the Indian epics of Ramayana and Mahabharatha. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted June 6, 2004 your camera and you really caught this one...well done. Link to comment
rajooda 0 Posted June 6, 2004 Yes, it is Kathakali, from the Southern State of India, Kerala. The Capture of colors and expressions is perfect. I was compiling a an article recently on Indian Classical Dance Forms, I wish, I had such a beuatiful photograph to include then. Loved it. Rajeev Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted June 6, 2004 Thanks for confirming Augustine / Rajeev, you can copy it with my compliments. Let me know if you want a higher resolution and I'll be posting more personalities. Please let me know their names as well. Dennis, Jayme, Robert, thanks for visiting and really appreciate your kind comments. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted June 6, 2004 This is a darker image I captured but thought that the main image was better. What do you think? Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted June 6, 2004 Alec, Your main image is much more dynamic. The diagonal formed by the tilt of his head and angle of his arm make it so. If I had to choose, the main one would be it. It also fills the frame better, dividing the dark areas more evenly. A good example of when the square format is clearly superior. Excellent result for a candid shot. Could use a backlight to rim light the subject if it could be duplicated in a studio. Best, LM. Link to comment

Amar, I'm glad you like my interpretation which I hope complements your inimitable style towards classical Indian dance portraits. Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Alec, I like the darker image as well. You should probably submit it as an independent piece. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Thanks Amar, I actually have more so I'll try to sort them out soon. Antonio, I'm impressed. From Italy and still you are familiar with Indian epics. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 7, 2004 Alec, what a beautiful portrait, very nicly captured with all the colored details of the theatrical figure of the Mahabarata. I think that the first one is more convincing. Pnina Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted June 8, 2004 Very clean, pleasing portraiture. A series of these would be nice with small descriptions of each. I really like the way you used the fill-flash in this shot, subtle yet very effective. Link to comment
Bilal Zaheer 0 Posted June 8, 2004 You managed to get a pretty good one Alec. I guess your flash really did its job well! You know after I went home, I could still hear their drumming from a couple of kilometers away! because it was such a quiet late hour. Link to comment
pimderuijter 0 Posted June 8, 2004 Amazing, what a great colors has this photo! The expression in his face is perfect.Mahabharata, that sounds familiar, a few months ago I bought a book about that. Very interesting!Regards, Pim Link to comment
jmoody 0 Posted June 8, 2004 "...best viewed large", small, medium...whatever. From thumbnail up, this is a great shot (much more impact than the other you included in the comments section). Bright vivid colors on a black background...this is a winner. Nice work Link to comment
