Too bad there isn't a rating field for "difficulty of capture" in which I would automatically score this a 7/7! Therefore, I reflect this facet in the originality portion. Asthetically, your later posting is even better. Commendable effort nevertheless as these little guys are so darn hard to track even with naked eyes.

Again, thanks everyone. There are some much better examples in Fred Lord's portfolio. If anyone is interested the links are listed in the exchange between Peter and me above. It's fun to try this, but definitely not my forte. =)

I have to admire any hummingbird shots because I know how hard they can be to capture, especially in flight. My best shots are of them perched and sitting still. I like this one because of the angle of the wings. I always like the fan-tailed shots best, just because they are more interesting. Nice work.

Alot of comments on this one! I have come to admire those who get these great shots (of birds) because they are not easy to capture! And there are many on PN who get these great shots. I like the background in this because the colors coordinate w/ the bird and it's not busy. Of course great DOF, and the darker line from the fence doesn't bother me, it adds another line to the photo and the wings are making a line in another direction. We all know here on PN that you never know which photos are going to get the most ratings, it's timing or who has formed relationships...you never know! There is some great work that doesn't get noticed!

A class act Tony - don't underrate your effort: this one is better than the one Peter linked for us, and always remember - with photography, appearance really is everything!!

it's timing or who has formed relationships... !!! Yes Sarah, I believe this definitely has a major impact.

You have some great stuff Kim. I believe we discussed that above! The thing about these shots of the hummers in flight... find me a single one that was not done via the cheat method (feeders)! Then I will be truly impressed.

Thanks Neil. Peter and I ended up agreeing that Fred Lord is the one with the best shots. Check it out.

As a side note, what I like best about this is that everytime I look at it I hear that sound, and then I think of the Jetsons! Remember those little space cars? That sound! lol~!

Certainly any one would LIKE their image to be sharper, but in this case I do not see sharpness as a problem at all. How sharp would this have been to me with the naked eye? You've found an excellent shot here, and the motion is exciting and dynamic.
