The selective focus on the stuffed animal works! An entirely different photograph than if you had included boy AND animal or just boy in plane of focus. Nice vision. Thanks.

I really get the sense that the animal is alive and he is protecting the sleeping child (probably his friend, ahhh).

 

One thing thoughWhy is there a gray haze at the sides of all your photos ?

Wonderful image! You actually made the stuffed animal look fierce by making it so sharp and so close to the lens. By contrast, the child who is being protected looks innocent and vulnerable. One criticism: the darkening of the edges of your prints is a bit distracting to me. Also, congratulations on your POW, though I like this one better.

It's a very touching picture, the tiger looks very fierce in his protection of the boy.

Came here out of curiosity - because the author criticised the current POW. I too considered it exemplary weak, but unfortunately we remain a very tiny minority.

And I was not disappointed: a very rare find on photo.net, a photo that is not only well composed and executed, but also plays with meanings. Average photographers seek only to express something "beautiful", however meaningless that might be.
